Spring Sprints Rules

The Spring Sprints Galas are open to all Saracens’ swimmers from both pools providing they were fully paid up members as detailed below and are not members of any other swimming club up to and including the start of the competition.  Swimmers training with Metro who undertake one ‘Link’ session per week are eligible for these galas.

  • New members: - subscriptions must be paid in full by 1 January of the same year
  • Small Pool members: - subscriptions for January-March quarter must be paid in full by 14 January
  • Members moving to main pool for January-March quarter – subscriptions must be paid in full by 14 January

The committee decides the rules of the gala.

The eligibility of entry shall be at the discretion of the Gala Committee.

The organisation of the gala is the responsibility of the Gala Secretary.

Ages are as at the date of the final gala in the competing year.

Age sections are:

  • Juniors – up to 10 years (inclusive)
  • Seniors – 11 Years and over

Two galas to be held in the Spring of each year on the normal club night.

Gala 1 will include 25m Backstroke and Butterfly events and the 50m ront crawl and Breaststroke events.

Gala 2 will include 25m Front crawl and Breaststroke events and the 50m Backstroke and Butterfly events.

The heats for each event will cover all age groups and competitors will swim in seeding order regardless of age.

The time of each swimmer will be recorded and all events will be decided on a ‘Declared Winner’ basis. Awards will be presented to the six fastest swimmers in each age group.

An entry card system will be used for each of the two galas and late entries will not be accepted. The closing date for entries will be specified on the entry forms.

For each event 7 points will be awarded to the fastest swimmer, 5 points to the second fastest, 4 to the third, 3 to the fourth, 2 to the fifth and 1 to the sixth fastest swimmer in each age group.

Championship Shields will be awarded to the swimmers (Boys and Girls) in the Junior and Senior sections who have gained the most points overall.

The ICL Trophies will be awarded to the overall top boy and top girl. These trophies are to be returned and competed for annually.

In the event of a points tie an award will be given to the swimmer with the highest number of 1st places, or second places, etc and if necessary on the best improvement or overall nearest to the existing record times.
