Saracens is a family swimming club based at Hazel Grove Swimming Pool

We have a strong team of dedicated ASA qualified swimming teachers, all of whom are volunteers.  The Club is managed by elected Officers and Committee, most of whom are parents of swimmers.  Parents are encouraged to participate in the running of the Club and to help out on poolside.

In 2005 the Club has achieved ASA Swim 21 accreditation at Teaching level which demonstrates quality in all aspects of the club’s development and recognises that we are a safe, effective and child-friendly club.  This confirms the reputation that Saracens has always had in providing a great environment in which children can learn to swim and progress to a competitive standard.

Small Pool – One of the main aims of the Club is to teach children to swim.  Beginners and improvers are taught in the small pool.  We offer half-hour weekly classes on various days.  Each class is working towards the national ASA Water Skills awards.

Main Pool – When a swimmer’s technique in the four strokes is well established, he or she moves into the main pool.  Here technique is still closely monitored but the main aim now is to build up stamina and speed.  Racing dives and turns are taught and swimmers can take part in competitions if they wish to do so.  Main pool swimmers are entitled to swim up to four times a week.

Competitions – We organise two of our own galas, the Spring Sprints in March and the Club Championships in November.  All members are encouraged to participate in these.  We also compete in various leagues with other local clubs.  Our Team Managers select swimmers using criteria such as their swimming times, their reliability and the requirement of the particular gala.  Some of our members also compete at national and even international level.  Two of our most famous honorary members include Graeme Smith and James Hickman.

There is a small waiting list for 4 year old beginners, but improvers and competent swimmers will be offered a trial and may be able to join straight away.  Alternatively, come down on Thursday evening onto the balcony and have a chat to committee members and other parents.
